CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s lacrosse head coach Dom Starsia announced that midfielders Greg Coholan, Tyler German, Ryan Tucker and attackman Owen Van Arsdale have been selected as team captains for the 2015 season.
“I have been blessed throughout my career to have had teams led by some truly outstanding college student-athletes,” said Starsia. “The internal leadership of a college team may be the strongest determinant of performance and success. This 2015 Virginia Lacrosse team will have a slightly different personality than some of the more experienced teams of recent years.”
Coholan, a redshirt junior from Rochester, N.Y., started all 16 games in 2014 on the first midfield. He scored 13 goals and dished out 14 assists. Coholan scored a career-high three goals against Johns Hopkins, including the overtime winner.
German, a senior from Centreville, Md., was a key member of the second midfield in 2014. German scored 12 goals and dished out five assists.
Tucker, a senior from Towson, Md., is a two-time Academic All-ACC honoree. Tucker scored 24 goals and dished out six assists while running on the first midfield. His goal against Loyola with one-tenth of a second forced overtime in the 2014 season opener, a game UVa later won.
Van Arsdale, a senior from Charlottesville, Va., is a three-time Academic All-ACC honoree. Van Arsdale started all 16 games in 2014 and led UVa with 27 assists. He also scored 11 goals for the Cavaliers.
“We have had a very productive fall and if the question comes down to leadership, I am very confident we will have an exciting spring,” said Starsia. “The team has made some strong choices for captains and these young men represent the finest ideals of the University. We will benefit from outstanding leadership in 2015, on and off the field.”
