CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 10 Virginia women’s cross country teams travels to the Midwest this week to compete Friday at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. The Cavaliers are part of an elite field that includes 22 of the top 30 teams in the nation.
The women’s 6K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. CT (noon ET) at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Virginia will compete against one of the strongest fields of any cross country meet in the nation this fall. The meet features six top-10 squads: No. 2 Michigan State, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 Stanford, No. 8 Iowa State, No. 9 Florida State and the 10th-ranked Cavaliers. Four ACC rivals, No. 12 Syracuse, No. 13 North Carolina, No. 17 Boston College and No. 28 Notre Dame are among the other ranked teams competing in Madison.
The Cavaliers have been off since Sept. 26 when they won the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. Sophomore Sarah Fakler (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the individual champion, while graduate students Iona Lake (Norwich, England) and Morgan Kelly (San Francisco, Calif.) and sophomore Sara Sargent (Philadelphia, Pa.) also posted top-10 finishes.
The Virginia men and women will return to action on Oct. 31 when they host the ACC Championships at Panorama Farms. It will be the third time the course has hosted the conference meet. The women’s race will be at 10 a.m., with the men’s race following at 10:45 a.m.
