Cavaliers Open Landfall Tradition Tied for Eighth

Oct. 24, 2014 Wilmington, N.C. – The 18th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied for eighth place after Friday’s opening round of competition at The Landfall Tradition tournament taking place in Wilmington, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 4-over 292 and are tied with North Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio State. Purdue leads the 18-team field after shooting 5-under 283.

Junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) led the Cavaliers by shooting 3-under 69. She is tied for fifth place after the opening 18 holes. Sophomore Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is in 21st place at even par 72. Senior Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) and freshman Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio) are tied for 36th at 74. Kolodzik is playing as an individual and her results do not count in UVa’s team score.

UVa junior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) is in 63rd place at 77 and freshman Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) is 79th after posting a score of 79.

South Carolina’s Nanna Madsen leads the field after shooting 6-under 66. A total of 11 of the 18 teams competing are ranked in the top-25 of the current Golfstat poll.

The second round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday.
