CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia softball head coach Blake Miller announced Monday (Nov. 17) that Allie Arneson, Olivia Gott, Tia Mitchell, Erika Osherow and Lacy Smith have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cavaliers for the 2016 season.

“I am excited to say this class is one of the best we have signed to date with the sheer amount of athleticism they possess along with the capability for all of these kids to make an impact right away,” Miller said. “They are truly fun to watch and we can’t wait to get them on the field with us.”

Shortstop – 5-5 R/R
Aledo, Texas – Aledo High School
Travel Team – Team Mizuno Impulse and Aces Express Gold
• 2014 Texas District 7-4A Offensive Player of the Year
• Member of 2014 all-state second team
• 2014 All-Parker County MVP
• Helped lead Aledo to 2014 Texas Class 4A State Championship
• Three-time member of the academic all-district team

“Allie will bring a solid, vocal presence to our middle infield,” Miller said. “She is a great gap-to-gap hitter with good speed and power, making her an immediate impact player for us.”

Catcher/First Baseman – 5-10 R/R
Weston, Fla. – Cypress Bay High School
Travel Team – Gold Coast Hurricanes
• 2013 Miami Herald First-Team All-County member
• Helped lead Cypress Bay to district championships in 2013 and 2014
• Helped lead Gold Coast Hurricanes to seventh place at 2014 ASA Nationals

“Olivia will bring a strong bat and arm to us in the catching position with the potential to contribute elsewhere,” Miller said. Her leadership abilities and game-calling abilities behind the plate will be vital with our pitching staff.”

Tia Mitchell
Outfielder – 5-2 L/R
Clarksburg, Md. – Clarksburg High School
Travel Team – Vienna Stars
• 2014 First-Team All-Montgomery County member
• Two-time Clarksburg MVP
• Three-time academic scholar award honoree

“Tia has been clocked as one of the fastest players in recent years in the country,” Miller said. “She will be a great addition to our outfield in terms of what she covers as well as her aggressiveness. She is a true triple threat hitter from the left side that will open up what we can do offensively.”

Erika Osherow
Pitcher/Shortstop – 5-8 R/R
Darien, Ct. – Darien High School
Travel Team – Connecticut Seahawks
• Two-time all-state selection
• Three-time All-Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) selection
• Two-time Darien MVP
• Also lettered in field hockey and was a second-team all-county cross country runner at Darien
• Member of the National Honor Society

“Erika is one of the hardest throwing pitchers UVa has ever signed with tremendous upside,” Miller said. “She is a true athlete with good foot speed and good pop in her bat which could potentially place her in the lineup even when she is not in the circle.”

Lacy Smith
Pitcher/Corner Infielder – 5-9 R/R
Lancaster, Pa. – Manheim Township High School
Travel Team – Gold Coast Hurricanes
• Two-time Pennsylvania all-state honorable mention
• Three-time Lancaster-Lebanon League All Star
• Helped lead Manheim Township to first appearance in state championship since the 1980’s in 2014
• Helped lead PA Shooting Stars Gold to 2014 ASA Gold Championship
• Member of the National Honor Society

“Lacy brings great athleticism that we can use in just about any position on the field,” Miller said. “She’s a hard-throwing pitcher, agile corner infielder and hits for power. We think she could potentially see time in other positions as well.”
