CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Former Virginia swimming standout and Olympic gold medalist Matt McLean (’11) is set to compete for the United States at the FINA Short Course World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

McLean will be competing as part of the men’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay Thursday and in the 400-meter freestyle on Friday.

McLean won his fourth senior international gold medal as part of the U.S. men’s 4x200m free relay at the Pan Pacific Championships in August. He won Olympic gold with the 4x200m free relay in 2012 and also earned gold with the same relay at the 2012 FINA World Short Course Championships and 2013 FINA World Championships.

The Sterling, Va., native graduated with a degree in sociology and is one of UVa’s most decorated student-athletes. McLean won the 2011 NCAA Championship in the 500-yard freestyle and was a 15-time All-American at UVa. A 17-time Atlantic Coast Conference Champion, he was the ACC Swimmer of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
