CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia tennis standouts Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) helped guide Team USA to the Master’U BNP Paribas championship Sunday (Dec. 7) in Aix-en-Provence, France.

Team USA defeated France 4-1 in the final as Elbaba defeated Alice Bacquie 6-4, 6-2 in women’s singles competition. Elbaba finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 singles record and 1-0 doubles mark with UCLA’s Chanelle Van Nguyen. Kwiatkowski was 2-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles with Georgia’s Nathan Pasha.

The eight-team competition featured six student-athletes and two head coaches from International Tennis Association (ITA) member schools, who represented the United States. Other teams in the tournament were Belgium, China, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and Russia.

Cal’s Amanda Augustus and Boise State’s Greg Patton coached Team USA. Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau coached Team USA at the event with Patton in 2010 and 2011.

The format for the tournament was best-of-seven matches that featured two men’s singles matches, two women’s singles matches, one men’s doubles match, one women’s doubles match and one mixed doubles match.
