THREE THINGS TO KNOW…

1. Filip is Back!! – The throws group will once be headlined by Filip Mihaljevic. The sophomore Croatian, the 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year, returns after earning All-American honors in both the shot put and discus last season. He set the school outdoor shot put record and the second-best discus mark in school history. This season he will compete during the indoor season for the first time.

2. Pair of All-American Additions – Two All-Americans have transferred into the program this season. Jordan Young, a sophomore from Canada, comes to UVa after a standout freshman season at Arizona. He set the UA school record in the weight throw and competed in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships along with the hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Kyle Smith, who graduated last spring from Central Michigan, will compete in the javelin this spring as he is attending UVa Law. Also a former football player at Central Michigan, he finished 17th in the javelin at last year’s NCAA Championships.

3. Women’s Throws Getting Stronger – The Cavalier women’s throws program continues to improve. Christine Bohan returns after posting some of the best first-year marks in school history in the shot put, while newcomer Carter Green was a high school All-American in the discus.
