CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track & field teams will begin their 2015 indoor season this week as they compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Friday’s competition will begin at 5 p.m. at Rector Field House and Saturday’s events will start at 11 a.m.
Athletes from 13 schools will be competing at the meet, which is being held at the same facility that will host this year’s ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Joining the Cavaliers and host Hokies will be athletes from Charlotte, Charleston Southern, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, George Mason, NC State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Radford, St. Augustine’s and South Carolina.
The Cavaliers will take 36 athletes to the meet, including 13 that are making their track and field debut for Virginia. Among the veterans competing are reigning ACC Champions Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.) and Ryan Satchell (Central Islip, N.Y.). Jordan Young (Windsor, Ont.), an All-American last year at Arizona in the weight throw, will make his Cavalier debut this weekend.
Virginia will return to action next week (Jan. 23-24) with the Rod McCravy Meet in Lexington, Ky.
