CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Blaise Butler (R-Jr., Belvidere, Ill.) has been named the ACC Wrestler of the Week, as announced Tuesday (Jan. 20) by the conference office. This marks the first career ACC Wrestler of the Week honor for Butler.

Butler is the second Cavalier to earn the honor this season. Nick Sulzer claimed the award on Dec. 16.

Butler pinned Duke’s Trey Adamson two minutes into the first period Friday night to give the Cavaliers the clinching points in their 30-9 dual win against the Blue Devils. With the victory, Butler improved to 14-1 on the season. It was his fourth fall of the year. Butler is ranked third nationally this week by Amateur Wrestling News and The Open Mat and fifth by InterMat, WIN and FloWrestling.

Butler and the Cavaliers remain home on Sunday (Jan. 25) for a 1 p.m. dual with No. 10 Pitt as the Panthers make their first-ever visit to Charlottesville. Admission is free for all matches at Memorial Gymnasium.
