CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 5 Virginia returns to action with a nonconference home match against No. 42 Utah on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. First serve at the Boyd Tinsley Courts is set for 4 p.m.

Virginia owns a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against Utah, who is led by No. 100 Tereza Bekerova. The Cavaliers posted a 5-2 win over the Utes in the lone meeting between the teams in 2009.

The Cavaliers are led in singles by No. 1 Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), No. 16 Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and No. 42 Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.). Virginia newcomers Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) and Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) are ranked No. 11 in doubles and Elbaba and Nauta are ranked No. 22.

The Cavaliers (1-0) posted a 6-1 win over in-state rival VCU in their season-opener on Jan. 18. Elbaba, Morton, Mercer, Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and Marie Faure (Toulouse, France) posted singles wins in the victory.

Virginia swept the doubles with victories from Mercer and Morton, Elbaba and Nauta and Epstein and Faure.
