CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host ACC-rival North Carolina Saturday (Jan. 24) at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in their final dual meet of the season. Diving action will begin at 10 a.m., while swimming will commence at noon. There will be a special Senior Ceremony at 11:45 a.m. to honor the Cavalier fourth-years.

Admission to all home meets at the Aquatic and Fitness Center is free to the public. Live results will be available through VirginiaSports.com.

Virginia’s women (3-1) are ranked sixth in the latest CSCAA national poll, while the men (1-4) are receiving votes. North Carolina’s women (4-1) are tabbed 18th nationally, while the Tar Heel men (3-2) are ranked 20th.

A year ago, both duals came down to the final event, as the Cavalier women prevailed, 152-146, while the UNC men were victorious, 154-145.

Last weekend, the Virginia’s women defeated Virginia Tech, 243-110, while the UVa men fell to the Hokies, 218-135.

Sophomore Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) currently ranks first in the country in both the 500 free and 1,650 free, while junior Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) is No. 1 in the 100 back and third in the 200 back and 200 IM. Sophomore Laura Simon (Simmern, Germany) ranks second in the 200 breast and fourth in the 100 breast. Fellow sophomore Kaitlyn Jones (Newark, Del.) is No. 4 in the 200 IM and eighth in the 400 IM, while senior Ellen Williamson (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) is sixth in the 200 IM and seventh in the 100 fly.

On the men’s side, junior Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) currently is fifth in the nation in the 200 breast and sixth in the 100 breast, while sophomore Austin Quinn (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) ranks No. 19 in the 200 back and 24th in the 400 IM.

Next up, the Cavalier swimmers will travel to Christiansburg, Va., for the Virginia Tech Invitational Feb. 7-8, while the UVa divers will host the Cavalier Diving Invitational Feb. 7 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center at noon.
