CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 10 Virginia bounced back after a road loss to Baylor with a 5-2 win over No. 21 South Carolina in women’s tennis action on Friday (Jan. 30) at Boar’s Head Sports Club.

The Cavaliers improved to 3-1 with the win, while South Carolina suffered its first loss and fell to 4-1.

Virginia claimed the doubles point and received singles victories from Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) and Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.).

Virginia earned the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 1. No. 11 Morton and Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) beat No. 33 Meghan Blevins and Brigit Folland 6-2 on court two. No. 22 Elbaba and Nauta clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Hadley Berg and Elixane Lechemia on court one.

No. 16 Nauta gave UVa a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Folland on court three and Epstein made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Berg on court five.

Ximena Siles Luna put the Gamecocks on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mercer on court six and Dailey cut the margin to 3-2 with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over No. 42 Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) on court two.

Morton clinched the win with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 99 Blevins on court four and No. 1 Elbaba added a 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 win over No. 120 Lechemia on court one.
