Tallahassee, Fla. – The 17th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team shot 6-over 294 to move up to a tie for second place after 36 holes of competition at the Florida State Match-Up Tournament. The Cavaliers two-day total stands at 18-over 594. The Hoos are tied with tournament host Florida State. South Carolina, ranked No. 2 nationally, leads the 12-team field at 15-over 591.

UVa junior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) shot 2-under 70 to move up to fifth place at 1-over 145. Classmate Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) is one shot behind her in ninth place at 146. Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is in 44th place at 155 and Alex Hershberger is 63rd at 163.

Virginia has two freshmen competing as individual in stroke play. Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) is in 31st place at 153 and Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio) is 44th at 155.

Texas A&M’s Bianca Fabrizio continues to lead the field for medalist honors. She is in first place at 3-under 141, two strokes ahead of Furman’s Taylor Totland.

In addition to traditional collegiate scoring, the tournament features a unique team scoring component. The participating teams are paired in twosomes during the first two rounds and play in threesomes in the final round. The twosomes consist of partners playing together. The match-up portion of the tournament is determined by taking the best four scores from each of the partners and the lowest scores to make up the match-up partner total.

At the end of the tournament, the partners with the lowest score will win the Match-Up championship. The team and individual champions will also be crowned.

Paired with Furman, UVa will start play during Sunday’s final round at 9:10 a.m. from the first tee.
