CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) was named ACC Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Young set the Virginia record in the weight throw and won the shot put competition during last week’s Iowa State Classic.

Young broke his own school record in the weight throw with a mark of 22.61m, the best throw in the ACC this season, which places him fifth nationally. He won the shot put competition with a mark of 19.15m, the second-best mark in school history (trailing only teammate Filip Mihaljevic’s school record from earlier this season) and ranks 20th nationally in that event. He is the only ACC athlete to rank in the top 20 nationally in both the shot put and weight throw this year.

It is the second ACC Performer of the Week award this season for the Cavaliers. Mihaljevic earned ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week honors on Jan. 27.

The Cavaliers will send relay teams to compete this weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame. The entire team will return to action Feb. 26-28 for the ACC Indoor Championships, hosted by Virginia Tech.
