BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia women’s track and field team opened competition at the 2015 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships Thursday at Rector Field House. The Cavaliers are tied for 10th place after day one of the meet with three points.

“Last year, we had zero points after day one,” said head coach Bryan Fetzer. “This year we walk out of here with three points after day one. That is an improvement and that is what we are looking for this weekend. This group still has big two days ahead of them.”

North Carolina leads the meet with 22 points after three events.

The women’s distance medley relay finished sixth to score the Cavaliers’ three points of the opening day. Sara Sargent (Philadelphia, Pa.), Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.), Vanessa Fabrizio (Denver, Colo.) and Iona Lake (Norwich, England) crossed in a season-best time of 11:25.64.

The only other Cavalier to compete on Thursday was Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) in the weight throw, who finished 22nd with a mark of 14.96m (49-1).

The meet will run through Saturday at Rector Field House. Friday’s schedule starts at 11 a.m. with the conclusion of the men’s heptathlon.
