PITTSBURGH, Pa. – No. 5 Virginia topped Pitt 6-1 in ACC women’s tennis action on Friday (Feb. 27) at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Cavaliers (8-2, 2-0 ACC) recorded the doubles point and claimed five singles matches against the Panthers (2-6, 0-3 ACC).

Sophomore Marie Faure (Toulouse, France), junior Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.), junior Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), freshman Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) and junior Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) each recorded singles wins for the Cavaliers.

Virginia captured the doubles point as Collins and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) blanked Katherine Castro and Lolade Ogungbesan 8-0 on court one, and Elbaba and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) beat Molly Wickman and Amber Washington 8-2 on court three.

In singles, Faure topped Amanda Wickman 6-2, 6-0 on court six and Morton beat Washington 6-4, 6-0 on court three. No. 32 Collins beat Ogungbesan 6-2, 6-1 on court two before Pitt got on the scoreboard with Callie Frey’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Epstein on court four. Mercer posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Castro on court five and No. 1 Elbaba beat Audrey Ann Blakely 6-3, 6-2 on court one.
