CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Virginia softball team travels to Florence, S.C., this weekend (Feb. 28-March 1) to open ACC play against Pittsburgh. The games were moved because of field conditions from recent inclement weather in Charlottesville.

The two teams will play at Francis Marion University’s FMU Softball Stadium. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at noon while Sunday’s single game is also slated for a noon start. Virginia will be the home team in all three games.

Admission for adults will be $8 and $5 for youth.

Live statistics will be available on VirginiaSports.com for all three games.

The Cavaliers (3-12) dropped six games at the Citrus Classic last weekend in Orlando, Fla. Sophomore Kaitlin Fitzgerald (Placentia, Calif.) leads the team with a .409 batting average and 14 RBI, while freshman Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) is hitting .327 with eight extra-base hits and 14 RBI.

Pitt (13-1) went 3-1 last weekend at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. The Panthers are led by Shelby Pickett, who is hitting .480 with 10 extra-base hits, and Savannah King, who is 8-0 with a 1.00 ERA.

The Cavaliers lead the all-time series with the Panthers, 4-3, but Pitt swept the season series, 3-0, last year in Pittsburgh.

Virginia returns to action Wednesday (March 4) when it travels to James Madison for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
