CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 5 Virginia women’s tennis team posted a pair of victories on Sunday (March 8) at Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers defeated No. 57 Florida State (6-1) and George Washington (6-0) to extend their winning streak to six matches.

Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) each recorded singles wins against Florida State.

Virginia (11-2, 4-0 ACC) jumped to a 1-0 lead against the Seminoles after earning the doubles point. Elbaba and Epstein beat Yukako Noi and Lana Rush 8-1 on court three and Collins and Nauta clinched the point with an 8-2 win over Daneika Borthwick and Kerrie Cartwright on court one.

No. 108 Epstein won on court five when Fanning retired after the first set. No. 27 Nauta defeated No. 83 Noi 6-2, 6-2 on court three and No. 1 Elbaba clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 102 Borthwick on court one. No. 32 Collins beat No. 73 Cartwright 6-3, 6-2 on court two. Mercer beat Schippers 6-3, 7-6 on court six. FSU’s Castaneda posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) on court four.

The Cavaliers played singles only against George Washington, and received wins from Marie Faure (Toulouse, France), Mercer, Epstein, Morton, Collins and Elbaba.
