UVa Golfers Open Play at Seminole Intercollegiate in Ninth Place

Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 23 Virginia men’s golf team is in ninth place following the opening round of play at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 287 and trail tournament leader East Tennessee State by 11 strokes.
The Cavaliers were led on the first day of play by a pair of 3-under scores of 69 by senior Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.) and sophomore Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.). They are tied for sixth place after the first 18 holes.
UVa senior Ji Soo Park (Clifton, Va.) is 45th with a 73 while sophomore Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) is 69th after shooting 76. Freshman Danny Walker (Bradendon, Fla.) is 85th at 79. Sophomore Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), who is competing as a non-scoring individual, is in 35th place with a 72.
East Tennessee State’s Gudmundur Kristiansson is in first place after shooting 9-under 63.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will take place Saturday. The Cavaliers will tee off starting at 10:10 a.m. from the No. 10 tee and will be paired with Troy. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
