CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) was named ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Performer of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Young set the Virginia record in the hammer throw and won the discus competition during last week’s tri meet with Cal and Michigan.

Young headlined an impressive showing by the Cavalier throwers in Berkeley, winning two events and finishing third in another. Young won the hammer throw with a school-record mark of 220-4 (67.15m), breaking the previous record by nearly three meters. That mark ranks ninth nationally and is the best in the ACC this season. Young also won the discus with a mark of 197-5 (60.18m), ranking third nationally and leads the ACC. Young is the only athlete in the nation to rank in the top 10 in both the hammer and discus. He added a third-place finish in the shot put at the meet with a mark of 67-7.25 (19.08m), ranking 21st nationally in the event.

It is the second ACC Performer of the Week award of Young’s career. He was also honored during the indoor season on February 17.

The Cavaliers are off this week and will return to action April 17-18 as they host the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field.
