CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 12th-ranked Virginia women’s tennis team blanked NC State 7-0 in ACC action on Sunday (April 19) at Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers improved to 18-5 overall and 11-3 in ACC play, marking their second-most league wins in school history.

The Cavaliers recorded the doubles point and received singles wins from Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.Va.) and Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.). NC State falls to 10-15, 1-13 ACC.

Virginia recorded the doubles point as Collins and Epstein beat Liza Fieldsend and Tayla Stenta 8-2 on court three and Nauta and Mercer defeated Elisha Hande and Nicole Martinez 8-2 on court two.

UVa dominated singles play as No. 30 Nauta topped Martinez 6-2, 6-0 on court three and No. 22 Collins beat Fieldsend 6-1, 6-3 on court two. No. 4 Elbaba clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Joanna Nalborska on court one, while Epstein overpowered Stenta 6-3, 6-2 on court five. Mercer beat Natalia Janowicz 6-4, 6-2 on court six and Morton completed the shutout with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hande on court four.

Virginia will compete in the ACC Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday, April 24. The Cavaliers captured their first ACC championship last season.
