CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) was named ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Performer of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Mihaljevic set a pair of school records during the Virginia Challenge last week at Lannigan Field.

On the opening night of the Virginia Challenge, Mihlajevic won the discus competition with a school-record throw of 201-10 (61.52m), the second-longest throw in the nation this season. The following night, he won the shot put competition against a field that included four of the top 11 athletes in the nation. He became the first Cavalier to reach the prestigious 20-meter mark in the event with a Lannigan Field record of 66-1.75 (20.16m). That mark is the fourth-longest mark in the nation this season.

It is the second ACC Performer of the Week award of Mihaljevic’s career. He was also honored during the indoor season on January 27.

Mihaljevic and the Cavaliers will compete this week at the Penn Relays. The meet runs Thursday-Saturday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
