CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia’s Matt Barrett was named to the men’s lacrosse All-ACC squad, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The team is determined by a vote of the league’s five head coaches. The accolade is the first career honor for the sophomore goalie.

Barrett (Glenmoore, Pa.) is No. 1 in the ACC and No. 4 in the nation with 13.23 saves per game. His 21-save effort against then-No. 8 Cornell is the sixth-most nationally in a game this season. Barrett has made 172 saves through 13 games, 55 more saves than the ACC’s No. 2 goalie, UNC’s Kieran Burke (117).

The Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced early next week.

UVa returns to action on Saturday in the ACC-Penn Classic game. The Cavaliers and Quakers will meet at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
