CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The No. 3 Virginia rowing Varsity Eight will travel out to Seattle, Wash., to compete for the Windermere Cup Saturday morning (May 2) on the Montlake Cut.

The Cavaliers will face No. 5 Washington’s top crew in a head-to-head battle for the Windermere Cup, which is part of the annual Opening Day Regatta that marks the start of Seattle’s boating season.

The race is scheduled to begin at 2:35 p.m. ET. Live results and a live audio stream will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

The Windermere Cup has been contested every year since 1987 and the Washington women have won the cup each of the last eight years. In the men’s race, Washington will be racing Columbia and New Zealand’s world-champion under-23 crew.

“It’s a huge honor for us to compete for the Windermere Cup,” UVa head coach Kevin Sauer said. “The only other time we were here was 1998 when we raced UW and Great Britain and ended up third. I am excited that (Washington) Coach Bob Ernst and Windermere invited us. We are really looking forward to the race.”

Next up, the Cavaliers will compete in the ACC Championships May 15-16 in Clemson, S.C., on Lake Hartwell. Virginia is the five-time defending champions and has won 14 of the 15 ACC Championships.
