Virginia Hosts Penn State Sunday in NCAA Tournament Second Round

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s lacrosse team (12-6, 4-3 ACC), the No. 7 seed in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, hosts Penn State (15-4, 4-1 Big Ten) in the tournament’s second-round on Sunday, May 10 at 4 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

The game will stream live online for free on VirginiaSports.com. Live statistics (GameTracker) will also be available. The video and live stats also can be accessed through the Virginia Sports app, which is available through iTunes.

Virginia defeated Winthrop, 18-6, in Friday’s first-round game, while Penn State advanced after downing Johns Hopkins, 14-11.

The Cavaliers are ranked No. 8 in this week’s IWLCA poll while the Big Ten-champion Nittany Lions are No. 7. Penn State has won nine of its last 10 games; Virginia has won 9 of its last 11.

The Nittany Lions and Cavaliers have met every season since 1983, with Virginia holding a 17-8 overall lead in the series. Virginia won this year’s regular-season meeting, 16-15, with senior Casey Bocklet (South Salem, N.Y.) scoring the game-winning goal with four seconds remaining in regulation.

Penn State and Virginia have met three previous times in the NCAA Tournament with the Cavaliers holding a 2-1 edge. The two programs are among the top four teams in terms of NCAA Tournament appearances (PSU 21, UVa 28).

Bocklet had seven points in UVa’s win over Winthrop, scoring four goals with three assists. It was her third seven-point game in the last four contests. Bocklet’s seven points against Winthrop gave her 201 career points in her three seasons with UVa, the ninth player in program history to reach that milestone.

In addition to Bocklet, three other Cavaliers also had hat tricks against Winthrop Freshman Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) had her fourth hat trick of the year and her first since March 14 against Princeton.

After having a 42-game points streak snapped against Notre Dame, redshirt senior Liza Blue (Butler, N.Y.) scored three goals against Winthrop, her 10th hat trick of the season and 23rd of her career. Blue leads the team with 44 goals this season.

Junior Kelly Boyd (Baltimore, Md.) scored her second-straight hat trick, with all three goals against the Eagles coming in the first half.

The winner of Penn State-Virginia will face the winner of North Carolina-Florida next weekend.

Fans may purchase advance tickets for Sunday’s Second Round game online at VirginiaSports.com or Sunday afternoon at the Klöckner ticket booth. Reserved tickets are $7. General admission tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for youth 18-and-under and students of the participating schools with a valid student ID.

There will be a $5 cash parking fee for the University Hall, John Paul Jones Arena and McCue Center parking lots on Sunday. The parking charge does not apply to baseball fans holding a reserved parking pass for the University Hall parking lot. Free parking will be available in the Emmet/Ivy Garage and Culbreth Garage.
