TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–The Virginia men’s track and field team took the lead on the second day of the ACC Outdoor Championships Friday (May 15) at Mike Long Track.

The Cavaliers lead with 48 points, followed by Florida State (46), Duke (30), Louisville (28), Virginia Tech (23), Syracuse (18), NC State (17), North Carolina (17), Wake Forest (11), Clemson (10), Notre Dame (10), Miami (9), Pittsburgh (5) and Georgia Tech (1).

“We took care of a lot of business today and put ourselves in position to have a great third day,” UVa head coach Bryan Fetzer said. “It is now all about taking advantage of those scoring opportunities we earned the first two days.”

Sophomore Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) won the men’s shot put with a throw of 19.10m (62-8), while sophomore Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) was third with a mark of 18.55m (60-10.5). It is Mihaljevic’s third ACC title after winning the indoor shot put earlier this year and the discus in 2014. Both Mihaljevic and Young will compete in the discus Saturday.

In the decathlon, freshman Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) earned All-ACC honors, finishing third with a UVa freshman record of 7,179 points, which also ranks fourth all-time in program history. Senior Christian Lavorgna (Jefferson, N.J.) placed eighth with a score of 6,768 and redshirt freshman Cam Collins (Calhoun, Ga.) was ninth with 6,394 points.

“The way Christian and Cam battled injuries throughout the decathlon was inspiring to the whole team,” Fetzer said. “The decathlon is grueling to make it through to begin with and for them to compete at the level they did was incredible.”

Sophomore Adam Visokay (Ruckersville, Va.) placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:49.28, while junior Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.) was seventh in 8:58.15.

In prelims, senior Payton Hazzard (Huntington, N.Y.) qualified for the finals of the 400 meters in 46.36, while sophomore Nathan Kiley (Chantilly, Va.) qualified for the 800 meters final in 1:50.37.

The meet concludes Saturday with field events at 11 a.m. and track events at 5 p.m. ESPN3 coverage starts at 6 p.m.
