Bradenton, Fla. – The No. 25 Virginia men’s golf team was in 18th place at the NCAA Championships in Bradenton, Fla. when play was suspended at 6:28 p.m. due to lightning. Only the top 15 squads will advance to Monday’s final round of stroke play. Play was scheduled to resume at 7 a.m. Monday.

After 54 holes the Cavaliers stood at 29-over 893. UVa shot 11-over 299 during Sunday’s third round.

The teams occupying 15th place were SMU and Washington at 26-over 890. Both of those schools had finished their third rounds.

Three Cavaliers shot 1-over 73 during the third round. That group included senior Denny McCarthy and sophomores Derek Bard and Jimmy Stanger. Ji Soo Park shot 80 and Kyle Kochevar shot 81.

McCarthy was in 23rd place when play was suspended at 2-over 218. If he is one of the top nine individuals not attached to one of the 15 teams that advance to the fourth round of stroke play, he will advance for the final 18 holes of the individual competition. Last year McCarthy finished sixth at the NCAAs.

Stanger shot 6-over 222, Bard finished at 224, Park wrapped up his collegiate career with a score of 230 and Kochevar carded a 54-hole score of 239. Final positions will be determined at the conclusion of the round.
