GWANGJU, South Korea-Members of the Virginia swimming and diving team concluded action at the World University Games inside the Nambu University Aquatic Center in Gwangju, South Korea.

Rising junior Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed up winning gold in the 400-meter freestyle and 4×200-meter freestyle relay on Tuesday (July 7) with a fourth-place finish in the 200m free in a time of 1:59.26. Smith will next compete at the World Championships, to be held in Kazan, Russia, Aug. 2-9.

Fellow rising junior Laura Simon (Simmern, Germany) completed action at the meet Friday (July 10), qualifying for the semifinals and placing 15th in the 50-meter breaststroke in 31.99. Simon qualified for the semis of two other events, finishing 13th in the 100m breast and 15th in the 200m breast. Simon was also a part of the German 4×100-meter medley relay that placed sixth in 4:07.31.

Class of 2015 graduate JB Kolod (Pittsburgh, Pa.) qualified for the finals and placed 11th on the 3-meter springboards with a score of 358.00. He was also a part of the mixed team event for the U.S., finishing fifth.

In addition, UVa head coach Augie Busch was in Gwangju serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. women.
