CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Two members of the Virginia men’s track and field team are set to compete on the international stage this weekend. Rising junior Filip Mihaljevic will compete at the Balkan Senior Athletics Championships in Pitesti, Romania, while rising sophomore Chase Weaverling will run at the Panamerican Junior Athletics Championships in Edmonton, Alberta.

Mihaljevic will represent Croatia in the discus after winning the event at the Croatian National Championships last weekend in Varaždin. He threw a mark of 62.42m to capture the national title. Mihaljevic also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 17.83m. Last month, Mihaljevic captured the shot put title and finished fourth in the discus at the European Under-23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

Weaverling, a native of Darnestown, Md., will represent the United States in the 10,000 meters Saturday night (Aug. 1) in Edmonton after earning silver in the event at the USATF Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon. This will be Weaverling’s first international appearance.
