CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The second-ranked Virginia men’s soccer team opens its 2015 exhibition schedule at 7 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 15) when it plays host to Navy at Klöckner Stadium. The friendly serves as the first home event on the 2015-16 UVa Athletics calendar.

Prior to the match, Virginia will raise its 2014 NCAA Championship banner. Admission is free.

Coming off the program’s seventh national championship in 2014, the Cavaliers return 15 letterwinners, including six starters from their championship-game win over UCLA. Three-year starters Todd Wharton (Sr., Glen Allen, Va.) and Scott Thomsen (Sr., Brick, N.J.) return to anchor a UVa side that features a solid mix of veteran leadership as well as an exciting freshman class. Wharton was an 2014 All-ACC selection, while Jake Rozhansky (So., Germantown, Md.) was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

UVa’s incoming recruiting class was ranked No. 2 in the nation and figures to give the Cavaliers an immediate boost across the board. The incoming group is comprised of nine student-athletes, including eight freshmen and transfer goalkeeper Adam Prevost (R-So., Earlysville, Va.).

The Cavaliers opened fall training camp on Thursday. The exhibition against Navy is the first of three friendlies for Virginia as it prepares for its 16-match regular season. UVa entertains Radford at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 18) at Klöckner Stadium and heads to No. 3 Georgetown next Saturday (Aug. 22)

The Cavaliers start the regular season at home on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. with a stiff test against No. 17 Charlotte, which is the favorite to win the 2015 Conference USA title after earning a national seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
