CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The second-ranked Virginia men’s soccer team played Radford to a 1-1 draw Tuesday evening in exhibition play at Klöckner Stadium. The match was the second of three friendlies for the Cavaliers as they ramp up for the 2015 regular season.

“This was another good opportunity to play against a quality team,” Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch said. “Everyone on our roster played tonight, and we have one more exhibition on Saturday against Georgetown that will be another really good test before we head into the season.”

Virginia out-shot Radford, 13-9, while both teams put three shots on goal. Both teams attempted one corner kick.

Virginia scored in the 31st minute. Todd Wharton (Sr., Glen Allen, Va.) worked through traffic and into the box, then slotted a shot low to the near corner past goalkeeper Aitor Pouseu Blanco.

Radford tied the game in the 74th minute on a penalty-kick score from Fraser Colmer. After the conclusion of the regularly scheduled 90 minutes, the teams played an additional 10 minutes, where UVa took a pair of shots.

Virginia concludes its exhibition schedule at 1 p.m. Saturday when it travels to No. 3 Georgetown. The Cavaliers start the regular season at home on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. against No. 17 Charlotte.
