AIGUEBELETTE, France – Former Cavalier Kristine O’Brien (’13) earned a gold medal in her senior international debut at the 2015 FISA World Rowing Championships this past week in Aiguebelette, France.

O’Brien was part of the American women’s four that topped Great Britain, 6:25.22-6:30.52 for the gold medal.

Susanne Grainger (’13) and Christine Roper (’11) earned bronze medals for Canada in the women’s eight. Grainger and Roper earned silver medals with the eight in 2014 and bronze in 2013.

Inge Janssen (’10) earned her first medal at the World Championships, helping The Netherlands to a bronze medal in the women’s quad.

Constanze Duell (’14) and Katrin Reinert (’11) and the German four qualified for the A final and finished fourth overall.

Former Virginia volleyball and softball player Meghan O’Leary (’08) was part of the American double that finished 11th overall.

The group represented the largest-ever contingent from Virginia at a single World Rowing Championship regatta, surpassing last year’s total of six competitors.
