UVa Golfers Open 2015-16 Season at Northern Intercollegiate

Charlottesville, Va. – The 24th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team opens its 2015-16 this weekend at the fifth annual Northern Intercollegiate Tournament at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The 14-team field will play 36 holes Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. Play is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m.
The Cavaliers are the defending team champions, finishing the 54-hole event at 15-over 879, three shots ahead of Winthrop and Ohio State. Sophomore Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) led Virginia during the final round by shooting 2-under 70. He was the Cavaliers’ top finisher, placing seventh at 3-over 219.
Stanger is in the UVa lineup for this year’s event along with junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.), sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), senior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) and freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.).
This year’s field includes Ball State, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Marquette, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Toledo, UCF, UCLA and Winthrop.
