Sugar Grove, Ill. – The Virginia men’s golf team stood in eighth place after the first round of the Northern Intercollegiate taking place at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Cavaliers shot 16-over 304 during the morning round. The afternoon round was suspended due to darkness.

The 54-hole event will resume Sunday morning with the completion of the second round and then will be followed by the third round. UCLA and Illinois lead the field at 4-over 292.

Sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) led Virginia with a 2-under 70 to tie for second place after the opening 18 holes. Freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) is in 33rd place at 77 while senior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) is 44th at 78, junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) is 49th at 79 and junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) is 60th at 80.
