Charleston, S.C. – After turning in the second round’s best score, the Virginia women’s golf team moved into second place at the College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic. The Cavaliers shot 6-under 282 to enter Tuesday’s final round at 1-under 575. The Cavaliers trail tournament-leading Arkansas by 10 shots.

Senior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) was one of four UVa players to shoot under par on Monday. She posted a score of 3-under 69 on the Yeamans Hall course and is in fourth place after 36 holes at 4-under 140.

Senior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshmen Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) and Katharine Patrick (Houston) all carded rounds of 1-under 71. Coughlin is in 18th place at 2-over 146 while Gonzales is tied with junior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) for 23rd place at 147. Patrick improved to 66th place at 152.

UVa has two individual competitors participating at the event. Freshman Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) shot 79 and dropped back to 35th place at 149. Sophomore Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, Va.) is in 45th position at 150.

Clemson’s Alice Hewson leads the field at 8-under 136.

Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
