Anna Walsh Earns Second ACC Weekly Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Anna Walsh (Grapevine, Texas) was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Freshman of the Week after helping the Virginia volleyball team to the American Classic title last weekend, the league office announced on Monday (Sept. 21).
It is the second time this season Walsh has earned the weekly honor. The middle hitter led the Cavaliers with a .474 hitting percentage and 11 blocks, and was second with 3.09 kills per set on the weekend.
Walsh recorded double-figure kills in two of the three matches, while hitting over .400 in all three. She finished with 11 kills on a .562 clip to lead UVa to its first weep of the season over UMBC.
The Grapevine, Texas native, recorded a career-high 16 kills to help Virginia to its comeback win over American in the title match. She also added four blocks in the win. Walsh contributed to UVa’s three highest team attack percentages of the season.
Virginia begins ACC play on the road this weekend against Duke on Friday (Sept. 25) and Wake Forest on Saturday (Sept. 26).
