CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Sam Casto (Dallas, Pa.) and Tessa Dikkers (Pelham, N.Y.) have been named co-captains for the 2015-16 Virginia rowing team, head coach Kevin Sauer announced Thursday (Oct. 1).

“Both Sam and Tessa are great examples of hard work, enthusiasm and compassion,” Sauer said. “I know they will represent UVA Women’s Rowing very well!”

In 2014-15, Casto and Dikkers were part of the Varsity Eight that placed first at the ACC Championships and third at the NCAA Championships. Casto earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association First-Team All-America honors and was part of the Varsity Eight that was the top collegiate crew at the Head of the Charles. Casto has competed for the U.S. squad at the World Under-23 Championships the past two summers.

Dikkers was recognized as a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete and was a member of the Varsity Four that placed fourth overall at the Head of the Charles. Dikkers was part of the ACC champion Third Varsity Eight in 2014 and the ACC Champion Varsity Four in 2013.

The six-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions will compete in the 51st Head of the Charles on Sunday, Oct. 18 in Boston, where the Varsity Eight has finished as the top collegiate crew in each of the past four years.
