CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 4 Virginia field hockey team (8-2, 2-2 ACC) closes out its weekend homestand by hosting Richmond (5-5, 2-0 A-10) on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

Admission is free for all regular-season games at Turf Field. Live streaming video will also be available online with a paid Cavaliers Live subscription.

Richmond was slated to play VCU on Friday (Oct. 2) but the game was postponed because of inclement weather. The Spiders are not ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Poll but are No. 18 in the latest RPI index. Virginia has lost two-straight games with both losses coming to top-three teams. UVA fell 3-1 last Friday (Sept. 25) at No. 2 Syracuse and then suffered an 8-3 loss to No. 3 North Carolina this week (Friday, Oct. 2).

Junior striker Riley Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored two goals in the loss to the Tar Heels. Tata is tied for second on the team with six goals, all of which she has scored in the last five games.

Virginia leads the all-time series against Richmond 33-4-1 and has won the last nine meetings. Last year, the Cavaliers edged the Spiders 2-1 in Richmond.

After the Richmond game, Virginia will have six regular-season games remaining, five of which will be on the road, including games next Friday, Oct. 9 at No. 7 Wake Forest and Sunday, Oct. 11 at No. 15 Old Dominion. All six of Virginia’s upcoming opponents are currently ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
