CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.), members of the Virginia women’s tennis team, begin competition in the qualifying rounds of the Riviera ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday.

The event is hosted annually at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and brings together the top collegiate tennis players for the week-long competition. The qualifying rounds are a continuation of the event that began with pre-qualifying rounds this past weekend.

Nauta, the No. 28 ranked player in the ITA, is seeded fifth in the round and opens singles competition against Atlantic Coast Conference rival Daneika Borthwick of Florida State. Borthwick is the No. 66 ranked player in the ITA.

Nauta will also team up with Collins to compete in doubles action at the annual event. The pairing of Nauta and Collins will face the fourth-seeded team of Caroline Doyle and Melissa Lord from Stanford. The pairing of Doyle and Lord is ranked 25th in the ITA rankings.

Just as with pre-qualifying, a singles player or doubles tandem must win three consecutive matches to stay alive and move into the main draw. Eight spots in the singles main draw are reserved for qualifiers, while the doubles main draw will feature four teams from qualifying.

The main draw is set to run Oct. 8-11 and the Cavaliers have Collins and senior Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) competing in the event.
