CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia junior Patrick Foss (South Riding, Va.) has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. It marks his first career ACC Player of the Week and the first for a Cavalier player this year.

Foss scored on a pair of second-half free kicks in a dramatic 3-2 win over Louisville on Friday, his first career multiple-goal game and the first goals by a Cavalier defender this season.

He bent in a free kick from 40 yards out to give UVA a 2-1 lead in the 74th minute for his first goal of the season. Just one minute after Louisville equalized, Foss scored again on a free kick from just outside midfield for the eventual winning goal. The goal, which came with just 1:34 remaining in regulation, was named the No. 3 highlight on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 later that evening.

Virginia next faces Boston College in Newton, Mass., at 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 9) in ACC play. The Cavaliers return home next Tuesday (Oct. 13) for a 7 p.m. match with American before entertaining Pitt on Friday, Oct. 16 in an 8 p.m. game.
