LYNCHBURG, Va. – Members of the Virginia women’s tennis team went undefeated on Friday in day one of the main draw at the ITA Atlantic Regional, posting a combined 13-0 record in singles and doubles at the event hosted by Liberty University.

Top-seed Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y) defeated Teodora Radosavljevic from George Washington 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 one of four seeded players for the Cavaliers to advance on Friday.

Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), the second seed in the region, defeated Kristina Titova of Hampton 7-5, 6-2, while seventh-seeded Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) defeated Arnelle Sullivan of Maryland by a score of 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2. Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) was the final seeded player to win for Virginia as the senior, who is the 12 seed, defeated Rozel Hernandez of Navy 6-1, 6-2.

Also advancing for the Cavaliers were freshman Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Me.) who held a 4-1 lead in the first set when her opponent retired. Freshman Erica Susi (Vero Beach, Fla.) defeated Dajana Cvjetkovic of Norfolk State 6-3, 6-1. Junior Victoria Olivarez, who advanced to the main draw after winning two matches in qualifying play on Thursday, upset the three seed with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ilinca Stoica of Virginia Tech.

The Cavaliers saw three doubles pick up two wins each on Friday to advance to the quarterfinal rounds of the draw.

The pairing of Elbaba and Morton defeated squads from James Madison and Radford on the way to Saturday’s quarterfinal round. The pairing of Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Kelley also picked up two wins, downing teams from West Virginia and Virginia Tech to set up a quarterfinal showdown with the third Virginia pairing of Epstein and Olivarez. The duo of Epstein and Olivarez defeated teams from West Virginia and Duquesne on Friday.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday as the players seek a berth in the prestigious ITA National Indoor Championships.
