CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia women’s tennis team closed day two of competition at the Kitty Harrison Fall Invitational on Saturday, going 5-1 against Maryland in singles play while splitting a pair of doubles matches against host North Carolina.

The Cavaliers opened the day with two doubles matches against the hosting Tar Heels, splitting the matches. The doubles pairing of Victoria Olivarez (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) fell 6-1, while the doubles pairing of Skylar Morton (Bethesda, Md.) and Erica Susi (Vero Beach, Fla.) claimed a 6-4 win.

Virginia took to the court again in the evening, facing Maryland in singles competition and picking up five wins in the six singles matches.

Morton, Nauta and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Me.) picked up wins in tiebreaks after splitting the first two sets. Olivarez and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) defeated their opponents in straight sets to give the Cavaliers the five singles victories on the evening. Susi dropped her first set and then was forced to retire for the lone loss on the afternoon for Virginia.

Virginia will return to the court on Sunday, taking on the Rice Owls at 9 a.m. in singles play to close out the event.
