CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s lacrosse head coach Dom Starsia announced the team’s 2016 schedule on Tuesday (Dec. 1). The challenging slate features 14 games, including eight home contests at Klöckner Stadium. Season tickets are now on sale and may be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com, by phone at (800) 542-8821 or in-person at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office.

“The announcement of our 2016 schedule is a reminder that spring is just around the corner,” said Starsia. “It is unique to men’s college lacrosse that the top teams play each other throughout the regular season. A look at our 2016 slate reveals that recent champions from the Ivy League, Patriot League, the Colonial and Southern Conference and newly formed Big Ten will join traditional rivals from the ACC.”

The 2016 home schedule includes contests with Loyola (Feb. 13), High Point (Feb. 23), Penn (Feb. 28), Syracuse (March 4), St. Joseph’s (March 8), Johns Hopkins (March 27), VMI (March 29), and Duke (April 17).

The Cavaliers will travel to Drexel (Feb. 20), Cornell (March 12), Notre Dame (March 19), Richmond (April 2), North Carolina (April 10), and Georgetown (April 23). The ACC Championship will be held April 29 and May 1 in Kennesaw, Ga.

The ACC will announce TV designations at a later date and the dates and times for home games should be considered tentative at this time.

Team Highlights
The men’s lacrosse team returns seven starters from last year’s squad, as well as All-American defenseman Tanner Scales who missed the 2015 season with an injury. Virginia finished the 2015 season with a 10-5 record and lost to Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Virginia returns 77 percent of its point scorers from 2015, as well as second-team All-American goalie Matt Barrett.

“If it is about the journey, 2016 promises to be exciting and competitive from start to finish,” said Starsia. “Tack this schedule up nearby and make your plans to join us.”
