LONG BEACH, Calif. – Virginia men’s tennis players senior Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.), junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) competed in the singles main draw at the 2016 Long Beach 25K Futures Tournament, being held Jan. 12-17 at the El Dorado Park Tennis Center in Long Beach, Calif.

Wiersholm, who also advanced through qualifying into the main draw, dropped his first set, 6-0, to fellow-qualifier Farzin Danny Amiri, but came back to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the second round. Wiersholm had a 13-match win streak snapped with a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Ernesto Escobedo in the second round.

Shane fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 to Eric Johnson in his opening-round match on Tuesday afternoon.

Kwiatkowski, who earned his spot in the main draw by advancing through qualifying, fell 6-3, 6-2 to Deiton Baughman in the first round.
