CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 17 Virginia (5-2) wrestling team opens its defense of its ACC Championship on the road at No. 3 NC State (16-0) at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 17).

The Cavaliers are coming off a neutral-site victory over Virginia Military Institute at St. Christopher’s School in Richmond this past weekend, while the Wolfpack is coming off a 4-0 performance at the Pittsburgh Duals last weekend.

Noting The Cavaliers:
Virginia holds a 5-2 record on the season in dual meets with wins against No. 25 North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Grand Canyon, No. 15 Old Dominion and VMI. The Cavaliers’ two losses came on the road at No. 5 Ohio State and at No. 24 Minnesota.

Virginia has faced nationally-ranked foes in four of its first seven dual meets and will face another nationally-ranked foe in the third-ranked Wolfpack on Sunday. In all, Virginia has five nationally-ranked foes left on the schedule in the remaining six dual meets on the schedule.

Cavaliers In The Rankings:
Virginia comes into the dual meet ranked as highly as No. 17 in the nation in the latest Intermat and NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Cavaliers also have two wrestlers ranked nationally in their weight class.

Noting The Wolfpack:
NC State enters the dual meet with a 16-0 record on the season and has six wrestlers in the national rankings in their weight class — including the top-ranked wrestler at heavyweight in Nick Gwiazdowski. NC State is one of four undefeated teams in the nation and is 3-0 against ranked opponents this season.

The Series With NC State:
The Wolfpack picked up the win last season 22-20, rallying with victories in the final two bouts to take a 31-30-1 lead in the all-time series with the Cavaliers.
