MELBOURNE, Australia – Two Virginia men’s tennis alums, Treat Huey ’08 and Dominic Inglot ’09, competed in doubles and mixed doubles in the main draw of the Australian Open.

Huey advanced to the semifinals of mixed doubles, his first-ever semifinal appearance at a Major. Huey and Andreja Klepac won their first-round match 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) over Elina Svitolina and Artem Sitak, advancing to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Inglot’s doubles partner, Lindstedt, and Alla Kudryavtseva in the second round. The tandem advanced to the semis with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over third-seeded Yung-Jan Chan and Rohan Bopanna. Huey fell just short of reaching the final with a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Coco Vandewegh and Horia Tecau in the semis.

In men’s doubles, Huey and his partner Max Mirnyi, the 14th seed in the draw, made it to the quarterfinals. The duo advanced to the second round with a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-6 (10) victory over Aliaksandr Bury and Denis Istomin and into the third round with a 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over Thomaz Bellucci and Marcelo Demoliner of Brazil. Huey and Mirnyi advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea where they fell 6-4, 6-4 to Daniel Nestor and Radek Stepanek.

Inglot and his partner, Robert Lindstedt were the No. 11 seed in the men’s doubles draw and defeated a tandem from Bealrus, Sergey Betov and Teymuraz Gabashvili, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the second round where they downed Eric Butorac and Scott Lipsky 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. Inglot and Lindstedt fell 6-3, 6-4 in the third round Jamie Murray, Inglot’s teammate on Great Britain’s Davis Cup team, and his partner Bruno Soares.

Inglot also competed in mixed doubles, partnering with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The duo fell in the opening round 6-3, 7-5 to Leander Paes and Martina Hingis.

Inglot is currently ranked No. 23 in the world in doubles. Huey is ranked No. 34.
