CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 18 Virginia wrestling team continues home competition this weekend, hosting the Duke Blue Devils and No. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels in a pair of dual meets. The Cavaliers face Duke at 7 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 5) and UNC at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 6) in Memorial Gym.

The back-to-back matches come after inclement weather two weeks ago forced the rescheduling of the contest with the Blue Devils. Admission to all wrestling matches is free.

The Cavaliers in the Rankings:
Virginia continued to hold down a spot in the top 20 this week, remaining at No 18 in the latest NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll. Virginia also boasts a pair of wrestlers in the top 20 at their weight class in the latest individual rankings released by InterMat.

The Matchups:
Virginia and Duke face off first on the weekend and the Cavaliers hold a 57-6-2 lead in the all-time series with the Blue Devils and picked up a 30-9 win in the last meeting in the 2014-15 season. Duke has two wrestlers ranked in the latest InterMat rankings in their probable lineup, including No. 10 Mitch Finesilver at 149 pounds and No. 5 Connor Hartmann at 197 pounds.

The Cavaliers and the Tar Heels have met 74 times with UNC holding a 43-31-0 lead in the all-time series. Virginia dropped a tight contest in the last meeting, falling by one point in the dual meet in Chapel Hill, 17-16. The Tar Heels have five wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of their weight class in the latest InterMat rankings with No. 11 Joey Ward at 141 pounds, No. 6 Evan Henderson at 149 pounds, No. 10 John Michael Staudenmayer at 165 pounds, No. 2 Ethan Ramos at 174 pounds and No. 19 Alex Utley at 184 pounds.

Key Match To Watch:

The prime matchup of the weekend comes at 197 pounds on Saturday in the dual meet with Duke. That is the only matchup on the weekend that pairs nationally-ranked wrestlers against each other as Virginia is expected to send No. 10 Zach Nye against No. 5 Connor Hartmann.
