CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s lacrosse team continued its preparations for the 2016 season with scrimmages against Georgetown and Rutgers on Saturday in Washington, D.C.

In the first game, UVA tallied 19 goals to top Georgetown’s 7. The Cavaliers netted six goals in the first 10 minutes of play, including a goal by third year Besser Dyson (Alexandria, Va.) with an assist from third year Maggie Preas (Rockville, Md.) just one minute into the game.

Second year Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) led the dominant first half with four of 11 goals for Virginia, while the defense held Georgetown to just two goals. Dyson and third year Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.) each added three goals for the Cavaliers, while fourth year Kelly Boyd (Baltimore, Md.), third year Posey Valis (Baltimore, Md.) and second year Meghan Heick each scored two goals.

Fourth year Mary Alati (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and first year Maggie Jackson (Alexandria, Va.) tallied one goal apiece.

In the game against Rutgers, second year Lilly DiNardo (Salisbury, Md.) nabbed two goals and first years Avery Shoemaker (Wyndmoor, Pa.) and Angie Loynaz (Cos Cobb, Conn.) each scored one goal.

No. 10 Virginia will open the 2016 season on Saturday, Feb. 13 against No. 5 Northwestern in a neutral-site game in Kennesaw, Ga. The Cavaliers will host their home opener on Feb. 24 against in-state foe Richmond at 5 p.m. at Klöockner Stadium.
