CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia (2-3) softball team continues play on the road through the opening weeks of the season, traveling to compete in the UTSA Classic in San Antonio, Texas, this weekend.

The Cavaliers will play five games in the weekend event, beginning with a pair of games Friday (Feb. 19). Virginia will face Tulsa at 11 a.m. ET before facing Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at 4 p.m. ET. Play continues with two games Saturday (Feb. 20) as the Cavaliers will face North Dakota at 10 a.m. ET and host UTSA at 5:30 p.m. ET. Virginia closes the tournament against UTSA at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Virginia is coming off an opening weekend at the Kajikawa Classic that saw offensive production on display. The Cavaliers hit eight home runs on the weekend and scored 27 runs through the five games. As a team, Virginia is hitting .350 on the year with 26 RBI.

Junior Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) leads the squad at the plate in the young season, hitting at a .583 clip with four doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. Junior Iyana Hughes (Manteca, Calif.) leads the squad with seven runs scored, while sophomore Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va.) is the team leader with five RBI. Hughes and junior Madison Labshere (El Cajon, Calif.) lead the team with two home runs each.

Freshman Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) has been the leader in the circle this season, making four appearances with a 2-2 record in three starts. She picked up the wins against Utah State and Boise State on the opening day of the season. She has worked 18.1 innings in the circle with a 4.96 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

The weekend tournament is the second of four to start the season for the Cavaliers. All four weekend tournaments are on the road this season.
