CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (1-1) will host Richmond (2-0) in its home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. at University Hall Turf Field.

The game was originally slated to be played at Klöckner Stadium, but was moved to Turf Field behind University Hall in anticipation of adverse field conditions.

Live stats and live video stream will be available on Virginiasports.com.

Virginia is looking to bounce back after a 14-7 loss on the road to then-No. 12 Princeton. Junior Besser Dyson (Alexandria, Va.) scored a career-high two goals, while fellow juniors Posey Valis (Baltimore, Md.) and Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.) each scored two.

Valis has netted two goals in both games so far this season to lead the Cavaliers with four goals. Dyson leads the team in points with six, accumulating three goals and three assists in two games.

In one of UVA’s longest series, the Cavaliers hold a 35-3-1 advantage against Richmond and are 20-1 in games played at home. Virginia has won the last eight meetings, including a 14-6 win last season in Richmond. The two teams last met in Charlottesville on February 19, 2014 in a game that was also played at Turf Field, with UVA winning 18-9. The series dates back to UVA’s inaugural season in 1976. Virginia lost that game, 9-7, to Richmond.

Richmond has wins over Mercer, 16-2, and Liberty, 16-11, to begin the season. This will be the first road-game for the Spiders. Mia Castagnero leads Richmond with 11 points on the season (7 goals, 4 assists). Two other players have six goals each. Richmond’s defense has limited opponents to 13.0 shots per game, while the offense is averaging 49.5.

Virginia will continue its four-game home stand by hosting No. 6 Penn State on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. UVA will host William & Mary on Wednesday, March 2 and No. 2 Syracuse to open ACC play on Saturday, March 5.

Tickets for the game may be purchased at the box office at the Turf Field starting one hour prior to the game and all sales are CASH ONLY. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the Virginiasports.com website.

All ticket holders will have general admission seating for the event. Adult tickets for women’s home games are $5, while youth (18 and under), seniors (60 and over), and UVA faculty and staff tickets are $4 each.
